A child peers into an well
and catches the eyes of a stranger far below.
The child calls down to ask:
“Are you trapped?”
The stranger opens their mouth to answer,
but no voice rises from the dark.
"I'll get help." The child assures them.
But as they turn away
The stranger disappears.
